Actuarial Officer

As an Actuarial Officer, you are responsible to analyze actuarial data and prepare pricing of products, in line with actuarial policy, guidelines and procedures, in order to contribute to the continuous insurance coverage. Solves difficult financial problems using mathematical and statistical skills and tools.
Responsibilities & Core Activities:

Actuarial Support:

  • Collect and analyse data regarding products and services and prepare and draft actuarial reports for the purpose of (amongst others) the financial statements, budget, external reporting, and reinsurance.
  • Analyse and check calculation models that underlie the pricing of products, as well as proactively formulate improvements with respect to pricing.
  • Collect and analyse data regarding product performance, signal deviations from expected performance and formulate improvements from a cost and actuarial perspective, in cooperation with Commerce and Operations.
  • Collect and analyse data regarding the reserves for policies in the fields of individual and group life, health, accident, aging, postretirement benefits, signal deviations from budgeted reserves and/or previous months/years and prepare monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Contribute to the analysis of policies and corresponding historical claim behaviour regarding health, fire, motor, life and construction, determine the desired coverage rate and after reinsurance policies are.
  • Provide actuarial support to several departiments (including Marketing & Sales, Operations, Legal and HR), mostly focused on various calculations, and participate in meetings / negotiations with third parties.

Process & Project Control:

  • Translate legislative amendments and new products into actuarial consequences and requirements for the administrative system(s) and monitor, test and (pre-) approve the adaption of the system by a third party.
  • Develop, maintain, and test the models that are used within the Actuarial department, from both a technical and policy perspective.
  • Participate in and/or contribute to the planning and coordination of assigned projects, from an actuarial perspective, and ensure execution and delivery.

Other:

  • Keep up with internal and external developments and ensure development, transfer, and retention of new and state of the art knowledge in actuarial and related fields.
  • Executes other duties as assigned. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at discretion of management to assure continuity of the business operations.
Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
  • Min. bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Strategic Business Management or equivalent
  • Certification as ‘Actuarial Analyst’ or equivalent
  • Min. 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Good understanding of financial and commercial concepts.
  • Good working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis software and actuarial modelling systems (Axis or Prophet)
  • Solution oriented, able to analyse information and identify trends and patterns in a variety of complex data sets.
  • Good communication skills in English, Dutch, and Papiamento, both verbally and in writing.
